 <\/strong>Joaquim Rodrigues Salazar and Lu\u00eds Seme\u00e3o Ferreira Viana were Portuguese merchants who decided to create the Benefic\u00eancia Portuguesa. They were later joined by Miguel Gon\u00e7alves dos Reis. Its official foundation took place in October 1859 at a meeting held at the residence of the Portuguese Aires Coelho da Silva Gameiro, who later became Baron da Silva Gameiro.<\/p>\n
